Huon Hooke
Deep ruby colour with the last vestiges of purple in the rim, the bouquet red-fruited and gently herbal and minty, with a suggestion of raspberry and a whiff of tomato-bush. The palate is full-bodied and the tannins gently drying and slightly grainy, the overwhelming impression being of a savoury, earthy, somewhat old-fashioned wine with a lingering dryness—the antithesis of the modern, polished, bright-fruit styles of Australian cabernet. It's not a showy wine but quietly reassuring.
