Ranked #18 of 37 2016 Shiraz from Margaret River

Huon Hooke
Youthful red/purple colour and a fresh, raspberry, mulberry, fruit-driven aroma. It's very regional. The Margaret River character is easy to read as cabernet. The palate is medium to full-bodied, taut and sinewy. It even has a cabernet palate profile. I could swear there was cab in it. A very good wine regardless, fruit doing most of the talking.

This is iron fist in a velvet glove stuff. Its immediate inclusion of black fruits, spice, French oak and tannins all have a stately quality, yet the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. This is a new generation Margaret River shiraz that has moved on from being a bit experimental to the stage where it can stand up to Margaret River cabernet. Drink to 2031.
