Huon Hooke
Light-medium yellow colour with complex bouquet of cashewnut, white peach/nectarine, creamy dairy and baker's yeast overtones - even a hint of milk powder - nougat lurking beneath. The palate is intense and zesty with lemon-curd and lime-juice flavours along with stone fruits and toasted nuts, bright acidity and a lovely tension across the tongue. Refined and rich, a truly outstanding chardonnay.

Barrel selection is the difference between this and the straight Mornington Peninsula chardonnay, plus the price differential. Gotta pay for the new oak, I’m guessing. There’s certainly a slickness and more flavour here. Lovely oak spice, too. More stone fruit than citrus, although there’s a lemony tang throughout. It’s fleshy and full with a compactness and density, often a feature of chardonnay in this region. Fuller bodied, luscious, rich, ripe and so lovely to taste, nah, drink. Drink to 2032.
