Great vintage. Deep, dark, blackish colour with tawny tints and almost yellow edges. Smells overripe and earthy, bordering on 'dead fruit' character. Suspect the fruit was overhung. Some vegetal as well as almost oxidised fruit characters. The tannins are fairly gritty, sandy and the wine is not one of the most elegant.

Deep brown in color, the 1993 Hill of Grace shows dried herb characters over notes of dried cherries, earth and pencil lead. Crisp and concentrated, it has firm, chewy tannins and offers a good expression of what fruit remains, even if it is a little under-ripe and lean in the long finish. It is mature.

Medium to full red-purple; the bouquet is essentially fruit-driven, with utterly classic varietal character showing a range of licorice, earth and black cherry aromas supported by subtle oak. A mouthfilling and luscious wine, with wonderfully rich licorice and dark chocolate fruit, supported by an echo of vanillin oak. A wine which comes again and again as you taste it. Drink to 2010.
