89 Points Robert Parker
The debut release of a new offering, the 2002 Shiraz Secret Places is sourced from a Barossa vineyard. It exhibits abundant quantities of vanilla, coconut, blackberries, and currants in its more obvious personality. Displaying more rusticity than its siblings, it does not reveal the finesse and elegance of Mitchell’s other wines, but is loaded with wood, fruit, power, and tannin. Although a bit disjointed the day I tasted it, I suspect it will come together with more time in the bottle.
