Huon Hooke
Deep red purple. Oak a little prominent now; spicy and dried-banana; cassis cabernet fruit underneath. Firm, taut palate; authoritative grip; not quite as ripe/supple as '04. More depth and structure, though. A bit tight and unyielding now. Needs a fair bit longer.

86 Points Robert Parker
The purple-colored 2005 Bin 407 Cabernet Sauvignon was aged in French and American oak, 20% new. The nose reveals cedar, scorched earth, spice box, cassis, and black currant leading to a slightly compact wine lacking generosity on the mid-palate and finish.

95 Points James Halliday
Very typical Penfolds style, with strong structure built around a base of black fruits, tannin and oak seamlessly interwoven on the medium- to full-bodied palate and long finish. Drink to 2025.
