Medium to deep brick-red colour. Toffee, caramellised bouquet, biscuity and has a suggestion of oxidation or rancio character. Quite intense and firm, with plenty of acidity and piercing red fruit flavours. Direct, leanish, penetrating. Less soft and fleshy than the 1990, a different style of vintage it seems.

Medium to full red-purple; a clean and smooth bouquet with red berry fruits and a touch of cinnamon/spice, which may be fruit or oak derived. On the palate sweet and full, with chocolatey/briary edges to the fruit of a ripe year. Drink to 2003.
