Light straw hue. Some gas-pipe aromas, with a little mixed peel and some floor wax notes. The wine is very intense, powerful and mouth-filling; the palate is big and generous and strong. Wonderful depth and amplitude of flavour, rich and dry and lingering. A wholly impressive wine, which is just beginning to build some developed secondaries. It will be long-lived.

The 2011 Springvale Watervale Riesling flaunts vibrant lemon-lime aromas with hints of crushed stones, white pepper and touches of dill seed. Really tight and intense in the mouth, it has plenty of freshness and a nice, spicy and peppery undercurrent through the long finish. This wine has really opened out since I tasted it last year and is showing a lot more now. It benefitted from the viticulture decision to drop 20-25% of the crop in that vintage. The lower yields made all the difference in the quality. Drink it from 2014 to 2024+.

Light straw-green; as ever, has the most exquisitely perfumed bouquet that leaps out of the glass, the palate likewise more effusive, with ripe lime/lemon fruit running through the length of its immaculately balanced palate. Drink to 2021.
