Medium to deep red colour, brick-red edges. Walnutty, oak-led aromas, some stewed raspberries, dry Eastern spices, too. Medium-bodied and a trifle edgy with a touch of astringency and alcohol afterburn. Gritty tannins, some bitterness, too. Disappointing. A day later, the ullaged bottle was slightly more appealing and showed some complexity of character, but remained rather clumsy and a little alcohol hot. Where is the elegance of the Edelstones of old?

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2009 Mount Edelstone presents youthful, muted aromas with primary notes of black cherries, creme de cassis and violets highlighted by hints of allspice and fennel seed. Full-bodied, rich and concentrated, the dense fruit is superbly framed by a medium to firm level of grainy tannins and lively acid. It has lovely poise through the very long finish. Drink it from 2015 to 2025+.

96 Points James Halliday
Deep crimson; a delightful euphony of red fruits, black fruits, quartz, spices and a touch of briary complexity; the medium-bodied palate is poised and precise, offering a velvety armchair ride to a long, even and multilayered conclusion; wonderful nerve and energy, with a very long life ahead indeed. Shiraz. Drink to 2040.
