Huon Hooke

Huon Hooke

Deep, dark red colour with a good purple tint. The bouquet is fresh and clean, bright and vital, with stacks of vibrant primary fruit still evident. The tannins are youthfully firm, and the wine has amazing concentration, power and depth. A wholly impressive wine. Outstanding.
Tasted: 13/07/2017
Drink: 2017 to 2039

90 Points Robert Parker

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon shows forward black currant, cedar and clove aromas over hints of forest floor and bay leaf. Medium-bodied with good amount of muscular fruit, crisp acid, medium to firm levels of grainy tannins and a long, relatively straightforward finish. Drink it to 2020+.

91 Points James Halliday

Dark colour, and deeply fruited, with masses of blackberry, spicy oak and a splash of geranium; the palate is generous and rugged at this early stage, needing time to fully integrate, but the concentration is undeniable; time is needed. Drink to 2025.
Ben Edwards. November, 2021

94 Points Tyson Stelzer

lack Label is an institution and the refinement of recent vintages are the dividends of drastic vineyard makeovers with chainsaws a decade ago. 2010 is the wine to drink while the tightly wound 2009 slowly uncoils in the cellar. This early and generous vintage has been carefully handled, presenting accurate and vibrant red- and blackcurrants, capsicum, cedar and tobacco. True to the season, there is a liberal swell of fruit in the mid-palate, which quickly pulls into a controlled finish. Well balanced dark chocolate oak forms a backdrop, while firm, fine tannins promise medium-term endurance. 1 August 2012 release. Drink 2015 - 2020.
