90 Points James Halliday
An 83/9/8% blend of cabernet sauvignon, petit verdot and merlot. The extent of the battle Rodney Kempe had to wage with the elements in '12 is reflected in the 12% alcohol and, more importantly, the wine in the glass. The flavours aren't excessively earthy or herbal, but they are minty and somewhat green. Most Hunter Valley red winemakers simply threw their hands in the air and either walked away altogether, or sought a varietal blend component from McLaren Vale. It must have been a major temptation to make the Hunter/WA blend the only Folly red release of the year. Drink to 2018.
