Huon Hooke
Deep red colour with some purple tints. Subdued but very attractive aromas, subtle spices. The palate is medium to full-bodied and rich, dense and powerful, a very structured 128 with power and precision and great line, this will age magnificently. Great balance

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2012 Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz shows a youthfully muted nose of black and red plums, mulberries plus hints of pepper, charcoal, damp earth and sage. The medium to full-bodied palate centers on a decent core of mid-palate fruit structured by medium levels of chewy tannins and lively acid. It finishes long. 5,110 bottles were made. Drink it now to 2020+.

A young release for an ageworthy style, this is not a wine to be judged in haste. Tightly coiled and focused, it takes some coaxing to tease out vibrant red cherry and plum fruits from a subtly gamey core. Tannins are well structured for a promising future. Drink to 2027.

After purchasing Bin 128 in the late 1990s, I''ve never quite come to terms with the label since it switched to an earlier release style. Way too young, it opens shy, with subtle gamey and charcuterie notes and firm, finely textured tannins. As time passes, it shows reluctant flickers of the potential wrapped in its coils, with vibrant, focused, well defined red cherry and plum fruit slowly emerging. A well structured vintage with a promising future. 13 months in French oak, 26% new, 37% one-year-old and 37% two-year-old. Price rise from $38 to $40 this year. Available 6 March 2014. Drink 2022 - 2027.
