Huon Hooke
Deep purple/red, youthful colour. Bright, fresh, clean black fruit aromas, subtle hints of spice. Rich in the mouth with fleshy depths of fruit and charming character. Vibrant fruit, lush and delicious, clean as a whistle and utterly lovely to drink. Soft, fine-grained tannins, intensity, length and harmony. Oak is not obvious.

Deep garnet-purple in color, the 2010 V & A Lane Select Vineyard Shiraz displays a fragrant nose of black raspberries, cherries and red plums with nuances of cardamom, thyme and lavender. The medium-bodied palate is well structured with firm, chewy tannins and crisp acid framing the taut fruit. It finishes with a good length. Drink it now to 2020+.

When first tasted in Mar '12 it elicited the following tasting note: deep purple-crimson; this is a beautifully weighted and constructed shiraz; the medium-bodied palate effortlessly displays blackberry, sweet earth and classy oak, with fine tannins running through the very long finish and aftertaste. Not bad, you might think. But five months later, and in the company of all the Wynnsday releases, it was even better, its elegance shining through like a beacon without diminishing its other numerous virtues. All of which caused me to lift the points from 95 to 96. Drink to 2035.
