Huon Hooke
Deep, dense, purple/red colour; impressive hue and depth. It has a concentrated aroma of stewed plum and boiled-down blackberry puree. It's very concentrated on the palate as well, formidably so, and begs to be left in the cellar for a number of years. It's very tannic and fearsomely young, a bit raw and edgy. It needs several years.

Benchmark varietal definition of crunchy red- and blackcurrants, leaf, red capsicum and lifted rose bud perfume, yet at the same time deep and intense in black fruit presence. There''s a poise to this vintage, drawn out by vineyards situated in the cooler parts of McLaren Vale, lifted by tangy acidity and structured with firm, fine-ground tannins that promise a grand future. One of the best McLaren Vale cabernets I''ve tasted in a good while, and it''s only going to get better. Drink to 2037.
