An inky Shiraz, rich, dense and chewy with dark berry, liquorice and tar underpinned with spicy oak. Heroic wine that needs to be matched with fairly robust red meat dishes or allowed to age in bottle for at least a few years. Solidly structured with sweet tannins. Very impressive.

Deep garnet-purple colored, the 2013 Shiraz Kalimna Bin 28 has a wonderfully exuberant nose of ripe blackberries and blueberries with cracked pepper, roses and asphalt nuances. Medium to full-bodied and open-for-business now, it provides plenty of earth-laced black fruits flavors with a good amount of chew and a long finish.

From the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Padthaway and Langhorne Creek, matured for 12 months in used American hogsheads handed down from prior duties with Grange, Bin 389 and so forth. Healthy and deep colour, it has a rich bouquet with licorice, spice, dark chocolate and blackberry all in unison. Good stuff indeed, with the savoury/inky/graphite impact of the very long, balanced medium to full-bodied palate. This could well evolve into one of the best Bin 28s. Drink to 2033.

A Bin 28 of depth, structure and intensity, reflecting the dry, warm conditions and early, condensed harvest of 2013. It''s plush and rich, with concentrated black plum and dark berry fruits accented with liquorice and dark chocolate, framed in firm, drying tannins that carry good persistence and medium-term potential. A blend of Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale, Padthaway and Langhorne Creek, matured for 12 months in seasoned American oak barrels. 15 October 2015 release. Drink 2018 - 2028.
