Huon Hooke
Deep red/purple colour with a faintly garden mint, berry-like bouquet. The wine is big and brawny on the tongue, with abundant firm tannins, some black peppercorns and lots of stuffing. It needs time and will reward cellaring. It's a major contrast to the straight shiraz, and much less forbidding.

95 Points James Halliday
An 80/20% blend from 1919 and '20 plantings on the Eastern Vineyard. Bright crimson-purple; there is an element of subtle perfume to the bouquet linked to gentle damson fruit that is threaded through the almost silky, medium-bodied palate. If you want to pick one wine to drink first, this is it. But don't be deceived: it will cruise through decades to come. Drink to 2034.
