Huon Hooke
Deepish red colour with a purple tint. The bouquet is lifted and dark cherry-like, spicy vanillan oaky, and there's a heady hint of alcohol. Sweet lolly-fruit flavours, red cherry and dark cherry confectionery. The tannins are supple and plentiful, lingering through the warm, glowing aftertaste. It has a fair grip and is a little unready: it demands a little cellar time. It became increasingly impressive and delicious as it aired.

96 Points James Halliday
Wild yeast open-fermented, no whole bunches, 18 days on skins, matured for 17 months in new and used French barriques. Excellent colour; a complex but pure pinot with layers of red and black cherry fruit, fine tannins and perfect oak choice and handling. Will go on from here for many years. Drink to 2030.
