Ranked #59 of 69 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon from Margaret River

Huon Hooke
Deep red colour with a purple tint. The bouquet is bright, fresh and nicely cabernet-like, with blackcurrant, cedar and 'crushed leaf' nuances. The palate is intense and tight, elegantly framed and taut, with just a slight overtone of chewiness in its tannins. It finishes with a big grip.

Fermented in stainless steel, select parcels remaining on skins post fermentation, others pressed at dryness, each batch matured separately in French barriques (40% new) for 18 months. Very good red-purple; as vibrant and pure as the best Margaret River cabernets, cassis fruit to the fore, French oak synergistic, tannins and echoes of bay leaf/olive simply reaffirming the nigh-on perfect varietal expression. Drink to 2039.
