Huon Hooke
Medium to full red colour with a good purple tinge. The bouquet is reserved and dark, spicy and fragrant, with some of the ginger, mint and bitter Italian herb notes of The Acre, but more discreet and more integrated into the general complexity of the bouquet. The wine is medium to full-bodied and quite powerful, with good concentration, flesh and density and abundant soft, fine-grained tannins and terrific length. A gorgeous, sumptuous pinot.

42yo vines, no whole bunches, all wild yeast, bottled unfined and unfiltered. Sturdy and robust, but not plump. Macerated cherry and spice notes with wood smoke and cedar married happily within. Notes of undergrowth rest beneath. It would be easy to describe this wine as surly; it's an archetypal release from this vineyard; its mood will brighten in time. Drink to 2030.
