Ranked #4 of 28 2018 Chardonnay from Geelong
95/100
5 Stars
Huon Hooke
Medium to full yellow colour with a buttery, toasty, nougat bouquet that is forward and overt in keeping with the colour. It's full, rounded, soft and bosomy. Some rancid butter notes. The wine is fat and rounded, rich and full-bodied, showing butterscotch malolactic notes that take us straight to California. A superb example of the full-throttle chardonnay style. It's an echo of winemaker Doug Neal's alma mater, Giaconda.

94 Points James Halliday
Doug Neal dealt with the warm weather of the vintage by cutting back on new oak to 20% and holding mlf down to 20%. It has resulted in a crisp style that will flourish with a few more years in bottle, however well it is drinking at the moment. Drink to 2028.
