Huon Hooke
Deep colour with a tinge of purple, and a bouquet which is earthy, savoury, reminding of damp straw and undergrowth, finishing with a twist of licorice-like bitterness, with good depth and length. It's full-bodied and good but not transcendent, as might be expected at this price. (PS: two and three days later it was drinking better and better: still a quiet, relatively undemonstrative wine but concentrated, deep and subtly superb. Graphite, spice, dark chocolate aromas. A superb wine, but it needed time. Decanting and extended breathing recommended.)
